THE FILMS TO AMBUSH TO
Posted on 03 June 2019
In the age of social media, inspiration is everywhere however connection to something authentic isn't.
At The Naked Tiger, we constantly reference films, music and people to inspire us. Not only to create an item of clothing, but a spirit to go a long with it. Who is the woman wearing The Naked Tiger?
So for this months blog we have put together a list of films that inspire our brand and push us to continue to embrace the tiger within.
" SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND" . This film expresses 70's excess of money, drugs, sex and crime and we are all for it! Tony Montana and his wife Elvira have always been a constant source of inspiration for our brand. The extremely destructive couple make for a wildness that we want to embody...minus the more illegal and disturbing elements of the film. But the depth of both character's makes the movie even more interesting to observe. Plus, watch out for Tony Montana's reference about Elvira being a tiger. This film has some serious 70's clothes inspiration and some of the wildest behaviour captured in cinema.
The name Alabama may be ruined but Patricia Arquette's character Alabama Worley and her deep love for Clarence Worley lives on forever. The call girl and pop culture nerd couple remains one of our favourite and strangest relationship captured on screen. The characters are beautiful weirdo's and the wardrobe matches, both Alabama and Clarence are "so cool". This film captures deep love like we have never seen before
The film that made Marky Mark into Dirk Diggler and we will never recover. The soundtrack to this movie can't be beat. And with a slew of incredibly weird and wonderful characters, this movie makes us want to bring out our inner 70's porn star and laugh hysterically at the same time. All the character's in this movie somehow seep into your heart and you will find yourself referencing Boogie Nights for the rest of your days.
THE BLUE LAGOON
Well, we ain't called The Naked Tiger for nothing. This iconic Brooke Shields film made us WANT to be stranded on a deserted island and never put clothes on again. The tropical beauty of the landscape and characters will always be a point of reference for us. Watch it and chase that eternal summer forever.
This coming of age story captured our hearts and has some serious historical information on 80's Australia. Like learning "if you weren't a surfer chick, you were a nobody" and how to write the answers to a test under your school skirt so you could pass. This film navigates teenage hood in Australia like no other and we like to think we are a bit stuck in a Puberty Blues vortex. Trying to be cool is hard but trying to be yourself is where the magic happens
